August Youth Halaqa

This month's Youth Halaqa includes speeches, activities, iftaar, and suhoor. It will be held on Friday, August 26 at 7p.m. until Saturday, August 17 at 4:30 a.m. (fajr) at the Winnipeg Grand Mosque (2445 Waverley Street). Br. Idris Elbakri will present a speech on Ramadan at 7p.m. Parents who wish to send their children for the qiyaam need to submit a permission form and $5. Freedom from Hunger, Freedom from Oppression

 Islam Alive is organizing a fundraising iftaar (dinner) on Saturday, August 20th, at 8p.m. at the Clarion Hotel (1445 Portage Ave) to assist the victims of famine in East Africa and refugees fleeing Syria.  Tickets are $30 per adult and child over the age of 2. Fundraiser for Somalia

Winnipeg's Somali Community invites everyone to a “24-hour famine for Somalia” on Friday, August 5, at 7p.m., to donate one day’s food money to help the victims of the famine in Somalia. Attendees should donate $25 at the door and enjoy an ethnic vegetarian feast, spoken word, live music, entertainment, drama skits, storytelling and speakers. Beginning of Ramadan

The Winnipeg Central mosque in consultation with its religious advisors have confirmed the beginning of Ramadan to be on August 01, 2011. Taraweeh prayer will begin tonight July 31, 2011. Community Picnic

The Islamic Social Services Association's After-School Program is hosting a community picnic at Assiniboine Park, on Sunday, July 10, 1-5 p.m.--an afternoon of fun, sports and great food. For those who need a ride from downtown, chartered buses will leave from the Winnipeg Central Mosque. For more information, call ISSA at 940-1560.

2 Jumaa Prayers in the summer

To meet the needs of the growing congregation, there will be 2 Jumaa Prayers held from July 1 to September 2 at the Winnipeg Central Mosque (715 Ellice). The khutbah (sermon) of the first jumaa starts promptly at 1:30 p.m., and salaat ends at 2p.m. Please leave quickly from the mosque and the parking lots to help avoid traffic jams. The khutbah of the second jumaa starts promptly at 2:45p.m., and salaat ends at 3:15 p.m.
