Ramadan and Eid Dates

Dear Members of the Muslim Community, Assalamu Alaikum,

In accordance with the Fiqh position adopted last year to consider the method of accurate scientific calculations to determine the beginning of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, we are pleased to inform you of the dates of these blessed occasions. 

Insha Allah, the first day of Ramadan will be on Saturday May 27, 2017. Taraweeh prayers will start on Friday May 26, 2017.

The first day of Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Sunday June 25, 2017. Eid prayer will be held in the Royal Bank Convention Centre as in previous years.

The use of scientific calculations follows the positions of the Fiqh Council of North America and the European Fiqh Council. This method was adopted after extensive consultation and agreement from the Manitoba Fiqh Committee (Shaikh Ammar Khatib, Shaikh Ismael Mukhtar, Shaikh Atef Ibrahim, Shaikh Muhaidin Omar and Dr. Nazir Khan) and the Winning Islamic Centre (Masjid Bilal) and the Winnipeg Central Mosque.

The issue of moon sighting is a subject of some disagreement between Muslim scholars. We remain respectful of other approaches and opinions, and consider them legitimate and valid. We followed this approach to bring ease to the community.
