YOUTH ESSAY COMPETITION - Manitoba Muslim Magazine

 

DEADLINE: Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

The Manitoba Muslim Magazine is pleased to organize an Essay competition. The following are suggested topics and guidelines:

Topics:

1.Being a Canadian Muslim youth, challenges and opportunities. 
2. Islam liberates and empowers women in unprecedented ways. 
3. The importance of preserving the environment from Islamic perspective.

Rules:

1. Submission deadline is 25th June, 2014.
2. Competition is open to Muslim residents of Manitoba Ages 12-20.
3. Work must be original and only one entry per participant is allowed. It should be written by a single participant.
4. We encourage you to use references especially from Quran and Hadith.
5. Entries must be typed and within the word limit of 500-750
6. The name, age, address, word count and chosen topic must be clearly stated.
7. The competition is only in English Language.

Prize:

• Winner will receive a $200 cash prize.
• Their article will be published in a future edition of Manitoba Muslim.
• Competition result will be announced in the e-newsletter.

Being Muslim: a Practical Guide to Faith and Practice

Being Muslim is a class that will cover the essential aspects of Islam from the most basic level. Together, in a relaxed and friendly environment, we will cover a wide variety of subjects that will give learners not simply a collection of facts, but an understanding of the vision and spirit of Islam. 

All are welcome to attend. No background knowledge is required and all questions are welcomed.

Date: Every Saturday beginning Saturday November 9, 2013 (Approximate 12 week duration) 

Time:10:00am-12:00pm

EID AL-ADHA on OCT. 15th at WINNIPEG CONVENTION CENTRE

[Oct 15th] Eid Al-Adha Announcement

When: Tuesday, October 15th, 2013

The Hajj authorities have confirmed the beginning of the month of Zulhijjah to be on Sunday, October the 6th. Accordingly, Eid Al-Adha will be on Tuesday, October the 15th and the day of A’rafa will be on Monday, October the 14th.

 Eid Prayer details:

  • Venue: Winnipeg Convention Center, Down town
  • Beginning of Takbeerat: 8:30 AM.
  • Beginning of Eid prayer: 9:30 AM.
  • Beginning of Khuttba: 9:40 AM.
  • End of Khuttba: 10:00 AM.

Parking:

  • Tuesday is a working day, parking space at the Convention will be limited, but extra space is available in the adjacent hotel, the Bay, City and the surrounding streets.

Things to Note:

  • Please bring your prayer mats, as the floor is not carpeted.
  • Please keep your children in your company.
  • Please cooperate with security staff and volunteers and follow their instructions.
  • Please donate generously to help us cover all costs. Donation boxes will be available.

Virtue of the last 10 days:

  • The Prophet, may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days".We encourage you all to take advantage of these 10 days of Zulhijja by repenting to Allah and increasing your devotions and good deeds.

Eid Announcement

The day of Eid has been confirmed by the local Fiqh Committee based on moon sighting reports in a number of countries. Eid will be on Thursday August 08. Here are the details:

Location of Eid prayers:        

 Eid program:

  • Beginning of Takbeerat:           8:30 AM.
  • Beginning of Eid prayer:           9:30 AM.
  • Beginning of Khuttba:               9:40 AM.
  • End of Khuttba:                       10:00 AM.

Parking:

  • Parking is available for a fee at the Convention Centre and the adjacent hotel. Street parking is also available. Friday is a working day; parking space at the Convention might be limited.
